I AM JOYFUL - Whole Cacao - Guatemala
CEREMONIAL GRADE CACAO - FROM REGENERATIVE MAYAN FARMERS IN GUATEMALA
Crafted in the heart of Alta Verapaz, this 100% ceremonial cacao block brings you pure, sun-dried cacao from the mountain valleys of Guatemala. In collaboration with 65 Q’eqchi’ Mayan families, each cacao block embodies the rich tradition, community, and commitment to sustainable practices that make it truly ceremonial.
Why Choose I AM JOYFUL?
Smooth, Balanced Flavor: Unlike standard cacao products, this ceremonial-grade cacao offers a uniquely rich profile with balanced notes of light fruit, vanilla, and a hint of citrus. Ideal for days or occasions where you feel your body needs a bit more expansion (but not tooooo much!), this cacao delivers a truly loving connection with the heart and communities who produce the cacao with reverence.
Heart-Opening and Mind-Enhancing: Packed with natural compounds like theobromine, ceremonial cacao provides a gentle, sustained energy boost without the jitters of caffeine. It’s perfect for finding creative flow, enhancing focus, or adding a grounding ritual to your day.
Artisanal, Sustainable Production: From hand-peeling to stone grinding, each step honors traditional methods. The cacao is fermented for 7-9 days, slow-dried in wooden boxes, and processed with care in small mountain villages—a process that fosters community, fair pay, and cultural preservation.
A Cacao DEEPLY Rooted in Nature and Tradition
This ceremonial cacao is grown on plots of land and in the forests surrounding Q’eqchi’ family homes. Through regenerative agroforestry practices, each cacao plot supports biodiversity, growing amidst other plants like cardamom, turmeric, banana, and copal trees. This harmony with the land preserves ecological balance and provides a unique terroir to every batch.

Cacao is a way to have better days and do things in better ways. We’re a female-owned small business in the UK, and part of a global cacao collaboration with female chocolate farmers and stewards in Peru and Guatemala. By choosing Common Roots Cacao, you play a part in restoring justice to the cacao communities, and in return, they ensure each sun-kissed, stone-ground morsel is grown organically and treated with respect - carrying the essence of fairness, and justice from the beans to your cup and body.
